Although this particular example was constructed later, the type of regimental pistol shown at the bottom of the photograph (#10) was the model for Doctor Cole’s pistol. As part of his backstory in The Enlightened Series, Auden’s father fought in the Seven Years’ War and took the pistol during battle. When it came time for Auden to serve during the Revolutionary War, even though he is a doctor, the pistol was given to Auden by his father for protection. Auden vowed never to use it and gives it to Savvy when she is abandoned by the militia.
